3. Today's Light: Two Ways To Get What You Want
I thought I'd share with you 2 fairly simple web selling techniques that
have worked well for me over the years:
1. Minimum clicks
Every time you ask your visitors to click through to another page on your
site, you loose a percentage of them. Every time.
It does not matter how appealing you make the click to the next page. There
will always be a percentage of them that will click the browser "back"
button instead of the your "next" button.
Internet surfers know how to use the scroll bar. Make your page as long as
it has to be. Fit it all in. Only split it up when you absolutely have to -
like when switching to a secure order page.
2. Minimum tech
Avoid technical information like the plague. It is bad for sales.
Most people just don't care if your widget has 21 or 37 cylinders. They buy
to improve their lives. Tell them - in plain English - how your widget can
do just that.
If technical information is important to your typical customer, place only
essential technical specifications on your sales page with a link for those
interested in more specs.
Hope you find these as useful as I have. If you have trusty web selling
techniques of your own, please share them.
Cheers
André.
