--- 3. The Main Thing - The basics of online business
----------------------------------------------------------------
Today I received an email from Sandie Simpson. Sandie wants to
start an online business and asked me to share any help/ideas I might
have.
I started typing the reply and realized that you could all
benefit from this...
So here it is:
..1.. Be careful
I receive far too many emails from people who are in a panic.
People who sell the farm and dive into an online business - only to find
it's not quite the gold mine they thought it would be. It really
is a gold mine, but there's a lot you have to learn first. Keep
your day job while you figure it all out.
..2.. Be committed
My first 2 online business attempts where big, fat failures. Don't get
discouraged when your hard work doesn't pay off. Keep learning
and keep improving. It WILL work sooner or later. If you do the basics
right, success is the only possible outcome.
..3.. Don't believe them
Don't be tempted by those "Make 10 grand a week - while doing
nothing!" nonsense. Building a business always requires effort.
There are no shortcuts to long-term success.
..4.. And the main thing...
Find a niche you're passionate about. Just before I received
Sandie's email I was looking at www.juggling.org. Does this
guy make money from his juggling site? I don't know. He should.
From what I can see this is *the* juggling site on the Net and
he's getting lots of traffic because of it. All he needs now is
a product (and/or affiliate products) to plug into the site.
If it's something you're passionate about, you'll spend more
time on it, you'll try harder, you'll sound more convincing in
your sales copy and you'll enjoy it more. As soon as you're #1
in whatever you're in, making money from it comes naturally.
I know...
This isn't nitty-gritty advice, but nitty-gritty advice only
becomes useful to you once you have the above basics of
online business
taken care
of.
Best,
André
