Best Search Engine & Search Engine Resources Sites
|
![]() |
Occasionally Pandecta Magazine gives awards to search engines and search engine resources that rise above the noise. The list of awards given is fairly short and we like it that way. We really want these awards to mean something - and the sites that receive them really do stand out. If you know of a search engine or search engine resources that you want reviewed for addition to this list, please let me know (andre@pandecta.com).
BEST SEARCH ENGINE
No suprises here. Since mid 2000 we've ranked Google first. It has continued to rise in dominance - to the point where nobody doubts it. Google is king. There's no indication that it will loose it's throne in the near future. Also see Jill Whalen's "Who Will Be The Next Google" in the Search Engine Yearbook 2003.
BEST WEB DIRECTORY
DMOZ is a vast, human-created web directory. When you consider the scope (about 50,000 volunteer editors), this is not only a great directory but also a great human achievement. DMOZ is also crucial in SEO. For detailed guidelines on getting your site listed in DMOZ, please refer to the Search Engine Yearbook.
MOST PROMISING SEARCH ENGINE
Teoma started out as an interesting newcomer and quickly evolved to become a serious player in the search engine world. It's our choice for the title of "Google's biggest problem".
BEST SEO INFORMATION SITE
Bruce Clay has distinguished himself in the SEO industry. His site offers accurate, in-depth information presented in a way that makes it really accessible to anyone interested in SEO. There are many contenders for this award - notably Danny Sullivan's Search Engine Watch. Bruce Clay's site is at the moment the best of the search engine resources.
BEST WEB SEARCH GUIDE
The number one resource for anyone trying to find information on the Internet. We found the comprehensive web search tutorial (http://lii.org/search/file/search) particularly impressive.
